  • For some, going to a new school can be both exciting and difficult. At first, Chen Zihao always felt lonely at the new school. He usually kept his head down on the way to school.

  • We use the simple past to talk about finished actions or events in the past, and actions or events that happened regularly in the past.

  • To form the simple past, we usually add -ed or -d to the end of the verb. If the verb ends in -y, change -y to -i, then add -ed.

  • Yu Boya in ancient China played the qin (a musical instrument) very well. One day, while he was playing the qin in a forest, a woodcutter named Zhong Ziqi heard and understood the climbing mountains and the running water expressed in Boya's music. The two became close friends. When Ziqi died, Boya was very sad. He threw his qin away and never played again. The Chinese phrase 'high mountain and running water' was later used to describe deep friendship between close friends.
