Why Are People of Different Colours?

All skin colours come from melanin.
所有肤色都来源于黑色素。
Our body makes melanin to protect our skin from the sun.
我们的身体产生黑色素，以此来保护我们的皮肤不受日光的伤害。
People with more melanin are darker and those with less are lighter.
黑色素多的人肤色更深，黑色素少的人肤色更浅。
People in hot areas developed more melanin because dark skin helped protect against the sun and skin cancer.
生活在炎热地区的人会产生更多的黑色素，因为深色皮肤有助于抵御阳光，防止皮肤癌。
In colder countries, people developed lighter skin because they did not face the same kind of pressure to protect themselves from the sun.
在越寒冷的国家，人们的肤色就越浅，因为他们不用面临这种需要保护自己免受日晒伤害的压力。
If your parents came from sunny places, you were born with more melanin and darker skin.
如果你的父母来自阳光充足的地方，你生来就会产生较多的黑色素，肤色就更深。
