Then they went to watch a parade. Jenny learned the yangge dance from grandma. It was fun.

Monday Feb. 13 Sunny It was the Lantern Festival. I visited my grandparents with Jenny and Danny. We had yuanxiao for breakfast. It was very nice. Then we went to watch a parade. We joined it. It was interesting. We watched the beautiful lanterns in the evening. We all had a good time.

Jim is an American boy. He did many things during his Christmas and New Year holidays. He went to see his grandparents. They had a big dinner together. Then he visited a police station with his parents. He has always wanted to be a policeman. In the last week, he joined in a camp. He learned how to escape from fire and water in the camp. It's was difficult but exciting.

The Story of Nian

年的故事

In the old days, there was a monster. It was Nian. Everyone was afraid of it.

从前有一个怪兽。这个怪兽就是“年”。每个人都很害怕它。

Spring was coming. Nian went to a village at night. It ate many animals.

春天来了。年晚上去了一个村庄。吃了很多动物。

One day, an old man came to the village. 'Don't be afraid. I have an idea,' he said.

有一天，有个老人来到了这个村庄。“别害怕。我有一个主意，”他说。

He put up a couplet on the door and set off fireworks. People followed him.

他在门上贴了一副对联，还放了一些烟花。人们都模仿他。

Nian came again. It saw the red coupleds and heard fireworks. It was afraid and ran away.

年又来了。它看到这些红对联，听到烟花的声音后非常害怕。然后就逃跑了。

Everyone was happy again. From then on, they put up couplets and set off fireworks on that day every year. The day was named Nian.

大家又变得快乐了。从那以后，他们每年的那一天都贴对联、放烟花。那一天就被叫做年。
