年的故事

In the old days, there was a monster.

从前有一个怪兽。

It was Nian.

这个怪兽就是“年”。

Everyone was afraid of it.

每个人都很害怕它。

Spring was coming.

春天来了。

Nian went to a village at night.

年晚上去了一个村庄。

It ate many animals.

吃了很多动物。

One day, an old man came to the village.

有一天，有个老人来到了这个村庄。

"Don't be afraid.

“别害怕。

I have an idea," he said.

我有一个主意，”他说。

He put up a couplet on the door and set off fireworks.

他在门上贴了一副对联，还放了一些烟花。

People followed him.

人们都模仿他。

Nian came again.

年又来了。

It saw the red coupleds and heard fireworks.

它看到这些红对联，听到烟花的声音后非常害怕。

It was afraid and ran away.

然后就逃跑了。

Everyone was happy again.

大家又变得快乐了。

From then on, they put up couplets and set off fireworks on that day every year.

从那以后，他们每年的那一天都贴对联、放烟花。

The day was named Nian.
