Some people were crossing the river in a boat.
一些人正坐在船里过河。
One man in the boat had a beautiful sword.
船里有个人有一把漂亮的剑。
He was cleaning it and showing it to everyone.
他正在擦拭那把剑，并把它展示给大家看。
But the man wasn't careful and the sword fell into the river.
但是那人不小心，剑掉进了河里。
"Oh, no!" the others said.
“哦，不！”其他人说。
"Your beautiful sword!
“你那把漂亮的剑！
Let's stop the boat to find it!"
我们把船停下来去找剑吧！”
"Don't worry!" said the man.
“别担心！”男人说。
"I can wait!"
“我可以等！”
"I can find it easily."
“我很容易就能找到它。”
He made a mark on the boat with a small knife.
他用小刀在船上做了个记号。
"There! Now I know where my sword is," he said.
“那里！我现在知道我的剑在哪里了，”他说。
Soon the boat crossed the river and the man stood up.
船很快就过了河，那个男人站了起来。
"Now I will find my sword," he said.
“我现在要去找我的剑，”他说。
He looked for his sword under the mark on the boat, but it was not there.
他在船上的记号下面去找他的剑，但是剑不在那里。
"Where is it?"
“剑在哪里呢？”
"Stupid man!" the others laughed.
“愚蠢的人！”其他人大笑。
"Your sword is in the river!
“你的剑在河里！
The boat moved, but your sword did not!"
船移动了，但是你的剑没有移！”

顺其自然
A long time ago, in the north of China, there lived an old man.
很久以前，中国北部住着一位老人。
He was a farmer.
他是一个农民。
He had many nice horses.
他养了很多良马。
His family was happy.
他的家人很开心。
One night, a big black horse ran away from the farm.
一天晚上，一匹大黑马从农场里跑了。
The old man was sad.
老人很难过。
His friends came to say how sorry they were.
他的朋友们都来表达他们的遗憾。
The only thing the old man said was "What will be, will be."
老人唯一说的话就是“顺其自然”。
And he went on with his work.
然后他就继续做事了。
Months later, some people near the farm saw the black horse coming home with two beautiful white horses.
几个月后，农场附近的一些人看到那匹黑马带两匹漂亮的白马回家了。
They told the good news to the old farmer.
他们把这个好消息告诉老农民。
He thanked them and said quietly, "What will be, will be."
他向他们表示了感谢，并轻轻地说：“顺其自然。”
And he went on with his work.

The old man's son loved the big black horse.
老人的儿子很喜欢这匹黑马。
He wanted to learn to ride.
他想去学骑马。
So, his father began to teach him.

But during the boy's first lesson, he fell from the horse and broke his leg.
但是在男孩儿的第一堂课中，他就从马上摔了下来，折断了腿。
He could not walk well.
他行走不便。
The boy was sad.
男孩儿很难过。
The old farmer's friends came to say how sad they were.

The old man just said, "What will be, will be."

And he went on with his work.

A few weeks later, it began to snow.

It snowed all day and all night.

It was very cold.

The king ordered all the boys from each family to go to catch fish in the cold river water.
国王下命令，从各家各户征过来的男子都要去冰冷的河里抓鱼。
The old farmer's son could not walk, so he didn't have to go to the river.
老农民的儿子不能走路，因此他不用去河里。
The old man watched the boys working hard in the cold water.
老人看着男子们在冰水中辛勤劳动。
He said to himself, "What will be, will be."
他对自己说，“顺其自然。”
And he went on with his work.
