Making the Mark

做记号

Some people were crossing the river in a boat.

一些人正坐在船里过河。

One man in the boat had a beautiful sword. He was cleaning it and showing it to everyone.

船里有个人有一把漂亮的剑。他正在擦拭那把剑，并把它展示给大家看。

But the man wasn't careful and the sword fell into the river.

但是那人不小心，剑掉进了河里。

"Oh, no!" the others said. "Your beautiful sword! Let's stop the boat to find it!"

“哦，不！”其他人说。“你那把漂亮的剑！我们把船停下来去找剑吧！”

"Don't worry!" said the man. "I can wait!"

“别担心！”男人说。“我可以等！”

"I can find it easily." He made a mark on the boat with a small knife." There! Now I know where my sword is," he said.

“我很容易就能找到它。”他用小刀在船上做了个记号。“那里！我现在知道我的剑在哪里了，”他说。

Soon the boat crossed the river and the man stood up.

船很快就过了河，那个男人站了起来。

"Now I will find my sword," he said. He looked for his sword under the mark on the boat, but it was not there. "Where is it?"

“我现在要去找我的剑，”他说。他在船上的记号下面去找他的剑，但是剑不在那里。“剑在哪里呢？”

"Stupid man!" the others laughed. "Your sword is in the river! The boat moved, but your sword did not!"

“愚蠢的人！”其他人大笑。“你的剑在河里！船移动了，但是你的剑没有移！”

What Will Be, Will Be

顺其自然

A long time ago, in the north of China, there lived an old man. He was a farmer. He had many nice horses. His family was happy.

很久以前，中国北部住着一位老人。他是一个农民。他养了很多良马。他的家人很开心。

One night, a big black horse ran away from the farm. The old man was sad.

一天晚上，一匹大黑马从农场里跑了。老人很难过。

His friends came to say how sorry they were. The only thing the old man said was "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work.

他的朋友们都来表达他们的遗憾。老人唯一说的话就是“顺其自然”。然后他就继续做事了。

Months later, some people near the farm saw the black horse coming home with two beautiful white horses. They told the good news to the old farmer. He thanked them and said quietly, "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work.

几个月后，农场附近的一些人看到那匹黑马带两匹漂亮的白马回家了。他们把这个好消息告诉老农民。他向他们表示了感谢，并轻轻地说：“顺其自然。”然后他就继续做事了。

The old man's son loved the big black horse. He wanted to learn to ride. So, his father began to teach him. But during the boy's first lesson, he fell from the horse and broke his leg. He could not walk well. The boy was sad.

老人的儿子很喜欢这匹黑马。他想去学骑马。因此，他爸爸开始教他。但是在男孩儿的第一堂课中，他就从马上摔了下来，折断了腿。他行走不便。男孩儿很难过。

The old farmer's friends came to say how sad they were. The old man just said, "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work.

老农民的朋友们来表达他们的难过之情。老人只是说：“顺其自然。”然后他继续做他的事情了。

A few weeks later, it began to snow. It snowed all day and all night. It was very cold. The king ordered all the boys from each family to go to catch fish in the cold river water. The old farmer's son could not walk, so he didn't have to go to the river.

几个星期之后，天开始下雪，整天整夜地下。天气非常寒冷。国王下命令，从各家各户征过来的男子都要去冰冷的河里抓鱼。老农民的儿子不能走路，因此他不用去河里。

The old man watched the boys working hard in the cold water. He said to himself, "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work.

老人看着男子们在冰水中辛勤劳动。他对自己说，“顺其自然。”然后他继续做自己的事情了。

丑小鸭

Mother Duck had new babies.

He looks so strange.
