I was a college student in 2008, and I became one of the volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games.

We were trained for more than a year before the Games began.

We had courses about the Games, manners, and Western culture.

Then I worked at the Beijing Basketball Gym during the Games.

Our duty was to welcome important guests from all over the world.

We usually left school early in the morning, and arrived back at school late at night, but I was happy I could help others.

My Olympic volunteering journey started last September.

I was excited because I was a sports fan.

After a training through the Internet, I began my service in Wukesong Sports Center.

This center was for ice hockey games.

I was excited.

I could watch all the interesting games when I got some free time.

I also had happy talks with Chinese volunteers.

I learned more about Chinese New Year celebrations.

I told other volunteers stories of my hometown and made them understand more about Africa.

It was a good chance for us young people to know each other.

One day somebody sent Cao Cao an elephant.

有一天，有个人送给曹操一头大象。

It was a gift for him.

那是给他的一份礼物。

Cao Cao took his officials and his little son, Cao Chong, to see it.

曹操带领他的官员和小儿子曹冲一同去看大象。

They gathered around this huge elephant.

他们都围着这头巨大的象。

It was the biggest animal in town.

它是镇上最大的动物。

It was tall.

它很高。

It was huge.

很庞大。

It was heavy.

很重。

"How much does it weigh?"

“它有多重？”

Cao Cao asked his officials.

曹操问他的官员。

They scratched their heads and tried to think how to weigh the elephant.

他们挠挠头努力想着如何称这头大象的重量。

One of them said, "How can we weigh such a big animal?

他们其中一个说道，“我们怎样才能称这么大的动物呢？

No one has scales big enough for it."

没有人拥有大到可以称它的秤。”

He suggested building a huge scale.

Cao Chong was thinking and thinking.

At last he said, "I know how to weigh it."

But no one heard him.

但是没有人听到他说的话。

The officials kept thinking.

官员们继续想着。

Another man said that they could cut the elephant into small parts, weigh one part at a time, and add up the weights.

另一个人说他们可以把大象切成小部分，一次称一个部分的重量，然后再把那些重量加起来。

But people did not like this idea because they did not want to kill the elephant.

但是人们不喜欢这个主意，因为他们不想杀死这头大象。

Cao Chong said again, "I know how to weigh it."

曹冲又说，“我知道如何称它的重量。”

But nobody listened.

但是没有人听。

They did not believe that a six-year-old boy would know better.

他们不相信一个六岁的男孩会更明白事理。

They still talked among themselves.

他们仍然在内部相互交谈着。

Cao Chong pushed his way to the front.

曹冲挤到了前面。

He said very loudly, "I know how to weigh the elephant!"

他非常大声地说道，“我知道如何称大象的重量！”

This time everyone heard him.

这次大家都听到了他说的话。

Everyone laughed at him.

大家都嘲笑他。

"But I do know how!"

“但是我的确知道怎么做！”

Cao Chong said.

曹冲说道。

"Well, let's hear it.

“好吧，说来听听吧。

If you are so wise, tell us how to weigh this elephant."

如果你是真聪明，那就告诉我们如何称这头大象的重量。”

But they laughed when they said it.

但是他们在说这话的时候，仍在嘲笑着。

Cao Chong told his father that he could weigh the elephant if he had a big boat and a lot of heavy stones.

曹冲告诉他的父亲说，如果他有一条大船和许多重石头，他就可以称大象的重量。

Cao Cao was very surprised, but still he ordered his men to get everything ready.

曹操非常惊讶，但他还是命令他的手下去把所有东西准备好。

When they led the elephant down into the boat, the water came up, and then Cao Chong marked the water line.

当他们把大象领进船里的时候，水位上升了，然后曹冲就标出了船的吃水线。

Then they drove the elephant onto the bank and put the heavy stones in the boat until the water came up to the same line.

然后他们把大象赶上岸，又把那些重石头放进船里，一直到河水上升到同一吃水线为止。

Finally, Cao Chong told the men to weigh each of the stones and add up all the weights.

最后，曹冲叫下人们称出每块石头的重量，再把所有重量加起来。

In this way, he weighed the elephant.

这样，他就称出了大象的重量。

Cao Cao felt very proud of his little son．

曹操为他的小儿子感到非常骄傲。
